Lab 5 Flashcards
Assumptions of mark and recapture
-marking method does no hard the animal
-no births or deaths within the study
-population is closed
-likelihood of recapture is not influenced by the age
-mark will last the entire marking period
-marked animals will disperse completely within the population
What makes a population closed in nature?
-dispersal barriers
-slow/reproductive/death rate
What does M,C, and R stand for?
M: the number of animals that were marked initially in the first survey
C: the number of animals captured in the second survey
R: the number of marked animals that were recaptured in the second survey
What is the equation for species and quadrats
S=s(n-1/n)xk
s=total species
n=number of quadrats
k=number of special species belonging to only one quadrat
