Lab 2 Histology Pt.2 And Integ System Flashcards
What is connective tissue?
The most diverse and abundant class of tissue
What is the extracellular matrix?
Substantial amounts of material surrounding few cells. Has 2 components: protein fibers and ground substance.
What are reticular fibers?
Very Fine and arranged into branching framework in soft tissues.
What are collagen fibers?
Strong and have rope-like structure.
Able to withstand pulling forces in a tissue.
What are elastic fibers?
Have the ability to stretch and return to their original shape.
what are fibroblasts?
Responsible for producing extracellular matrix
What is stroma?
Made of reticular fibers for support in the tissue
What are chondrocytes?
Cartilage cells
What is an osteon?
Microscopic and have significant amount of matrix w/few spaces
What is central canal?
At the center of the osteon, the canal runs the length of the bone and contains blood vessels and nerves.
What is an osteocyte?
cells within a lacunae.
What is a perikaryon?
A soma or cell body that contains typical organelles Including the nucleus.
What is lacunae?
Smaller spaces within the osteon.
