Lab 1A Flashcards
Golgi Apparatus
Stacks of flattened discs of membrane that serve to package substances into secretory vesicles for secretion from the cells (lysosomes and peroxisomes are not visable)
Nucleus
Contains Chromosomes, which consist of DNA and protein,
Endoplasmic Reticulum Rough ER Smoth ER
A complex system of channels fromed from membrane Rough: When ribosomes are present Smooth: If ribosomes are absent
Microtubules
long, thin tubules formed from the protein tubulin
Micofilaments
Long, fine strands fromed from the protein actin
Centrosome
Contains Centrioles, which are involved in formation of the spindle apparatus
Ribosomes
Small, Dense particles which are the sites of protein sythesis
Spindle Apparatus
A system of microtubules that guides teh chromosomes during mitosis and meiosis
Kinetochore
where the chromosomes are attached to each other and the spindle
Nucleolus
a dense structure within the nucleus where ribsomal RNA is synthesized
Plasma Membrane
Forms the outer surface of each cell and exerts crucial regulation over the movement of most substances into and out of the cell. The Fluid within is called the Cytosol
Polyribosomes
A cluster of ribosomes heald together with an mRNA molecule
Chromatin
Chromosomes in thier disperesed form
Nuclear Envelope
A double-layered membrane surrounding the nucleus
Nuclear Pores
Found in the Nuclear membrane
