Lab 10 Flashcards
Know the structural differences between DNA & RNA
DNA = Double Stranded, Deoxyribose sugar RNA= Single Stranded, Ribose sugar
Be able to tell the difference between DNA sequence & RNA sequence
DNA= ATGC ( Adenine, Thymine, Guanine, Cytosine) RNA= Adenine, Uracil, Guanine, Cytosine
Know which bases are complementary:
A-T
G-C
A-T
Know the three components of a nucleotide:
Sugar, Phosphate, Nitrogenous Base
DNA= Deoxyribose, Po4^3-, THYMINE
RNA= Ribose sugar, Uracil
DNA REPLICATION
- Def.
- Occurs?
- Makes?
- The process the CELL uses to copy its own DNA
- Occurs in S-phase of cell cycle
- Make identical sister chromatids
Transcription
DNA TEMPLATE is used to make a strand of RNA
Where does Transcription Occur
NUCLEUS
TRANSLATION
MRA is use to make a protein
TRANSLATION OCCURS
Happens in RIBOSOME (CYTOPLASM OR RER)
Where can DNA, MRNA, TRNA be found in the Cell?
DNA= Nucleus tRNA= Cytoplasm mRNA= Cytoplasm
Function of the DNA
Stores genetic information
Function of mRNA
CARRIES
Carries messages from the NUCLEUS to the Cytoplasm
Function of tRNA
READ
READ messages of NUCLEIC ACID or NUCLEOTIDE and TRANSLATES them into PROTEIN
