What is the term used to describe this adhesion?

What does “rouleaux” in dogs mean?
Rouleaux in dogs is abnormal finding: hyperglobulinemia. Globulin has (+) charge. Globulin goes up with (+) charge can off set (-) in RBCs causing stacking.
In which species are lymphocytes the most common leukocyte ?
Cow, aka ruminants (cow, sheep, goat)
In which species are neutrophils the most common leukocyte?
dog, horse, cat
Which species has eosinophils with VERY large, round granules? Dog, horse, cat, cow?
Horse
Which species has eosinophils with small, pointed granules? Dog, horse, cat, cow?
Cats
Did you see any lymphocytes that contain a few pink granules?
Yes, in cow.
In the dog blood smear there are occasional lymphocytes that are large and have deep blue cytoplasm. What do lymphocytes with these features suggest ?
Reactive lymphocytes (by cytokines).
Bird blood - How do they differ from the mammalian counterpart (platelets) ?
Thrombocytes have nuclei.
Bird blood - How can they be distinguished from lymphocytes?
Lymphocytes usually have a bit more cytoplasm and it is more blue
Bird blood - How do they differ from erythrocytes of mammals
They are nucleated and are oval shaped.
Bird blood - Identify heterophils. What leukocyte in dogs has similar functions ?
Neutrophils.
Eosinophiles have definable round granules. Heterophils has very rough irregular granules. When birds are sick, heterophils > eosinophiles.
Reptile thrombocytes and erythrocytes - Are they similar to mammalian or avian species?
Avian
Reptile heterophils. What is the shape of the nucleus?
Round (sometimes segmented) nuclei.
Identify reptile basophils
Deep purple blue, you can barely make out the nucleus from the rest of the cytoplasm.
Do other members of the Camellidae family have similar erythrocytes?
Yes, all of them. Oval shaped red cells.
What is the physiological significance of erythrocytes with this shape ?
They are oval shaped. They are more resistant to osmotic lysis and swelling (Dog RBC 0.75; Camels 0.5-0.6). Camels go a long time without drinking and then will suddenly drink tons of water. They have high affinity to oxygen. They are also more deformable to squeeze through small vessels to help unload more oxygen.
Goat erythrocytes. Does there appear to be a relationship between erythrocyte size and numbers of erythrocytes ? - if so, what is it ?
Inversely proportionated. Looking MCV (mean corpuscular volume) and RBC count. Compensate each other.
Deer blood - what causes sickle shape when erythrocytes are exposed to air?
The sickle shaped erythrocytes is caused by hemoglobin crystallizing when the cells are exposed to air.
How does sickle of deer erythrocytes differ from sickle cell anemia of people?
Sickle cell = drepanocyte. Not all deer have sickle shaped cells. Deer RBC sickle shape do not circulate like this. Drepanocyte only happens in vitro!!
In rabbit, what are the cells with segmented nuclei and moderate numbers of small, variably shaped, red-orange granules called?
Heterophil
In rabbit, what are the cells also with segmented nuclei and with many large round, red-orange granules called ?
Eosinophils
What leukocyte of dogs has a similar function to heterophils?
Neutrophils
Guinea pig blood - Large, pink, homogeneous inclusions in some lymphocytes. What are these inclusions called ?
Kurloff body (equivalent to granular lymphocyte)
