Where are GPs based?

What are the roles of a GP?
- First person you call when ill (primary point of contact)
- Provide ongoing medical care for people in community.
- Care for people when ill + perform simple medical procedures.
- Provide preventative care + health education.
- Refer to specialist consultants in serious cases.
What are the responsibilities of a GP?
- Diagnose illnesses + discuss/agree treatment plan.
- Prescribe appropriate medication/treatment + monitor progression.
What are the roles of a consultant doctor?
- Provide consultation and manage complex cases.
- Leading multi-disciplinary care teams.
What are the responsibilities of a consultant doctor?
- Teaching/training junior doctors.
- Contribute to their specialty field through research and leadership.
- Diagnosing + treating more complex cases.
Where are midwives based?
Maternity units - increased number in the community (clinics, GPs, homes, children’s center’s).
What are the roles of a midwife?
- Supporting women through all stages of pregnancy - providing antenatal and postnatal care.
- Identifying high-risk pregnancies.
- Prepare women for birth during labor, pregnancy, and after birth.
What are the responsibilities of a midwife?
- Provide antenatal care (clinical examinations + screening).
- Monitor women during labor + the birthing process.
- Teach new/expectant mothers how to feed, care for, and bathe their baby.
Where are healthcare assistants based?
Hospitals, doctors surgeries, and the community.
What are the roles of a healthcare assitant?
- Support practice nursing teams in delivery of nursing services (multi-disciplinary working).
- Deliver + assist clinical staff in provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, and patient education.
What are the responsibilities of healthcare assistants?
- Taking + recording pulse, temperature, blood pressure, BMI.
- Making beds - mobilizing SU from bed.
- Washing + dressing - preserving dignity by using screens around beds.
- Serving meals and assisting with feeding if necessary.
Where are social workers based?
- Schools, hospitals, clinics, private practices, prisons.
What are the roles of a social worker (general)?
- To work with people to find solutions to their problems - protecting vulnerable people from harm/abuse or supporting them to live independently.
What are the roles of a social worker (adult)?
- Work closely with service users’ family/carers and help to live in residential care.
What are the roles of a social worker (child)?
- Ensure children are protected from abuse/neglect.
What are the responsibilities of a social worker (adult)?
- Accepting referrals, gathering information, assessing needs of the SU and their families.
What are the responsibilities of a social worker (child)?
- If at risk of harm, they take measures in ensuring they are safe/removed from home, and put in a safe place.
- Manage fostering/adoption procedures.
- Support young people leaving care and young people at risk of getting in trouble with the law.
Where are occupational therapists based?
- Peoples homes, GP practices, residential/nursing homes, prisons.
What are the roles of occupational therapists?
- Caring for people having difficulty carrying out daily tasks (usually due to physical/mental illness/accident)
- Agreeing specific activities with a SU that will help them to overcome barriers to living an independent life (treatment plan).
What are the responsibilities of occupational therapists?
- Helping with personal/daily tasks.
- Help to treat physical/mental/developmental/emotional ailments that impact a service users’ ability to perform daily tasks.
- Use therapeutic techniques to maintain a patient’s motor skills and overall ability to perform everyday activities.
Where are youth workers based?
- Colleges, faith-based groups, schools.
What are the roles of youth workers?
- Support young people to reach full potential.
- Support young people and their families/carers who are at risk of offending.
- Work with social workers, teachers, probation officers, and the police as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
What are the responsibilities of youth workers?
- Delivering programs relating to young people’s concerns, such as smoking, drugs, binge drinking, relationships, violence - organizing residential activities and projects + running sports projects/teams.
- Indicating/managing community projects with young people.
- Working with parents to support the healthy development of children.
Where are care assistants based?
- Service users homes, day care settings, residential and nursing homes, supported/sheltered housing.
What are the roles of care assistants?
- Providing practical help and support for people who have difficulties with daily activities - such as people with physical/learning disabilities, or mental heath problems.
What are the responsibilities of care assistants?

- Helping with personal care (washing/dressing, toilet, feeding).
- General household tasks (cleaning, laundry, shopping).
- Paying bills, writing letters.
- Liaising with other healthcare professionals.
Where are care managers based?
Residential care settings.
What are the roles of care managers?
(Play a key leadership role in care settings)
- Manage provision of residential care for adults/YA with learning difficulties, older people in residential care/nursing homes, people in supported housing, people receiving hospice care.
What are the responsibilities of care managers?
- Routine running of residential care settings.
- Leading + managing staff so they can perform their roles safely and to the best of their abilities.
- Making strategic decisions about future + growth of their care service.
