ulcerative colitis

A
  • chronic inflammatory disease of colon: rectal mucosa and varying portions of the large intestine
  • usually occurs as a chronic disease with mild to severe exacerbations but occasionally occurs in an acute form
  • symptoms: diarrhoea, abdominal pain, rectal bleeding and extra-intestinal manifestations (fever, joint pain)
