L8.Anatomy & Physio of Impression Taking Flashcards
What muscles bound the labial frenum in the maxillary?
Superior incisal muscles
What can be done to improve esthetics for someone with a resorbed max labial vestibular area leading to a retrussive maxilla?
Build up the labial flange on the denture
What bony structure limits the size of the denture in the buccal flange area of the maxillary denture?
Coronoid process of the mandible
Why shouldn’t you pull down on the upper lip while border molding? What will result? What are the proper movements?
B/c the orbicularis oris muscle in that region moves in a lateral direction. Thus, pulling down on the lip in this area does not mimic any natural facial movements and will result in a foreshortened denture flange. Ask the patient to move their upper-lip side to side and pucker-up.
To properly seat the posterior palatal seal, what should u ask the patient to do?
Swallow
Why is the center of the border molding wax removed in the posterior palatal seal area to make the butterfly shape?
B/c of the mid-palatal suture is a raised area with thin keratinized tissue that is vulnerable irritation. It is also the part of the hard palate that extends most posteriorly
When should the window tray impression technique be used? What is the purpose.
When there is an excess of soft tissue in an edentulous maxillary rim that is opposed by a dentate mandibular rim. This is too reduce pressure on the movable tissue and reduce maxillary alveolar bone resorption
