Q

Why shouldn’t you pull down on the upper lip while border molding? What will result? What are the proper movements?

A

B/c the orbicularis oris muscle in that region moves in a lateral direction. Thus, pulling down on the lip in this area does not mimic any natural facial movements and will result in a foreshortened denture flange. Ask the patient to move their upper-lip side to side and pucker-up.
