Q

What is a polyprotic acid and how does its acidity change?

A

A polyprotic acid is an acid with more that one acidic proton. The first proton it loses is the most acidic, after this it becomes less acidic because it is harder to remove a proton from a negatively charged species

Q

Which is the stronger acid H3PO4 or H2SO4 and why?

A

H2SO4 because it has 2 unprotonated oxygens and the strength of oxoacids increases with the number of unprotonated oxygens
