Decline of many other industrial cities, especially in the North and Midlands.

Define regeneration
Improving an area that has been experiencing a period of decline.
Define rebranding
The way or ways in which a place is re-developed and marketed so that it gains a new identity. It can then attract new investors and visitors.

Comphehensive regeneration

Urban Development corporations
City challenge & EDC
Explain what comphehensive regeneration is
Knock it all down (slums) and build again (tower block)
Explain what an enterprise zone is
Businesses lost, but areas cleared up with amenities in new housing
Tall tower blocks attracted damp, grime, crime deteriation, eyesores and vandals
What are Urban development corporations?
Property-led regenration, getting private investment into derelict land
Infrustructure rebuilt & attractive officies & housing
Jobs tended to move there, but suitable for locals, incluuding hosuing prices
What is the City challenge?
Local authorties bid for money from central government (and EU funding) to spend on inner city projects
What does an NDC do?
They are focused on local and social needs
