L5- Hydrogen Flashcards
1
Q
If CO2 emissions are less than 100gm/km what is removed?
A
Vehicle license duty
2
Q
What are some problems with using hydrogen?
A
- Hydrogen is not a pure element – you can’t ‘find it’
* Where do you get electricity for electrolysis?
3
Q
What are the advantages of using hydrogen?
A
- No dangers to the environment, e.g. oil spills
- No GHG in the process
- We could get electricity for electrolysis from renewable sources, e.g. wind/solar/hydro
- But still quite cheap to produce
- Multiple uses – power / transport / low-carbon heating
- Water is the only by-product
- Quick refuelling – full tank = several hundred km
4
Q
How is hydrogen used?
A
In fuel cells (eg in buses)
5
Q
What does electrolysis do?
A
Removes the impurities from hydrogen
6
Q
What produces hydrogen
A
Electrolysis of water
