L5 Flashcards
What are simple effects?
Differences between 2 conditions of one factor in a single condition of the other factor.
On SPSS, what preparation is required for repeated measures designs?
None
On SPSS, what preparation is required for mixed designs?
Splitting the file by the between-participants factor
On SPSS, what preparation is required for between-participants designs?
Split the file by one factor, then split file by the other factor
What does MANOVA stand for?
Multivariate Analysis of Variance
What does a MANOVA test?
If there is any effect of IVs on the linear combination of DVs.
What is the most commonly reported heuristic for linear combinations on SPSS?
Wilks’ lambda
What is an assumption of MANOVA?
Multivariate normality
What is multivariate normality?
The assumption that each DV is normally distributed
AND
The assumption that all linear combinations of the DV are normally distributed.
What is the minimum number of PPS needed for a robust MANOVA?
Between - PPS: 12 per group
Within: 22 pps overall
What test is used to check the homogeneity of variance-covariance matrices?
Box’s M
When is Box’s M most useful?
When samples are small or unequal.
What is the problem with correlated DVs in a linear combination?
Identifying the contribution of each DV is much harder. Correlation between the DVs explains some of the variance. Further tests, apart from MANOVA, will be needed.
What does a significant MANOVA tell us?
The IV has a significant effect on at least one DV.
How do we follow up on MANOVAs?
Post hoc tests for each individual DV.
OR individual ANOVAs for each DV
