L4 to L9 - Stats Tests Flashcards

1
Q

List the 8 steps of Hypothesis Testing

A

1 - State the null hypothesis, H0 and the alternative hypothesis, H1.
2 - Choose the level of significance (fancy a sign)
3 - Select the appropriate test statistic
3.1 Is a one-tailed or two-tailed test?
3.2 Are the variables independent or dependant?
4 - Compute test statistic value.
5 - Determine the critical values that divide the rejection and non-rejection regions (Look in tables)
6 - Compare the obtained value and the critical value.
7 - Make the statistical decision (If the test statistic falls in the rejection region, reject the null hypothesis).
8 - State the conclusion.

Q

What does a t-test do?

A

Q

What is the F value? What does is it used in?

A

The F value is the between sample variance/the within sample variance. It is used in ANOVA.

Q

What does a large or small F value mean?

A

Q

What do chi-square tests do?

A

Determines if what you observe in a distribution of frequencies would be what you would expect to occur by chance

Q

What is a correlation coefficient? What does a particular result mean?

A

Measures the relative strength of the linear relationship between two variables.
-1 = perfect negative
0 = no correlation
1 = perfect positive
