Major deforestation
3.9million hectares of land (77% of countries area)
Crop production, cattle grazing and road expansion caused the forests to only occupy 41% of land by 1986

A
Pursued forest restoration
Landowners were give Certificates of Forestry Payments if they replanted, they could exchange these for money with the government
Forests now occupy 50% of the country
