What happened to the ground and River Thames during the Little Ice Age?
The earth was frozen and the ground was permeafrost. The Thames River was completely frozen.
What was one positive event that was made out of the Little Ice Age, and how long did it last?
The Little Ice Age had led to a small fair called the ‘Frost Fair’, which lasted 4 days.
What is one positive thing for the vegetation that could’ve resulted from the Little Ice Age?
Some plants could thrive in the colder climate. People move to better agricultural places.
What is one positive thing that could’ve occurred from the River Thames freezing over?
People are able to easily transport goods of the frozen river. There was an assortment of entertainment e.g. Elephant walking on the ice and children playing in the snow and ice-skating.
What happened in London on February 2014?
London experience the hardest snow in centuries, this was known as one of the little ice ages.
What did the people build to save themselves from the biting cold and why?
They all lit a large fire to warm themselves as they didn’t have any central heating.
What were people generally eating and drinking during the Little Ice Age?
Some ate ginger bread and beer. Most starved due to the lack of food and money.
How did poeple make money during the frost fair?
Many set up stalls and olds food, drinks and personal belongings.
Why did the prices of food increase?
Less fertile land and no rainfalls caused the crops to die due to lack of nutrition, this lead to a famine and shortage of food, therefore an increase in food prices. Also because the Thames was frozen, ships were unable to transport goods such as food.
What was the main cause of death during the Little Ice Age?
Many people died due to hunger because the food prices were too high to afford. Also many died due to illness and the widespread of disease e.g. Cholera, the Black Death, the bubonic plague and hypothermia.
What impact did the Little Ice Age have on the economy?
The economy decreased because people could get to work or school, therefore services stopped and production stopped, reducing the economic input.
How did the Little Ice Age increase pollution?
To keep warm people made fires which released pollutants.
What affect did the Little Ice Age have on the animals and livestock?
Livestock died due to the lack of food, therefore farmers lost out on both crops and livestock. Furthermore, animals migrated to warmer images and some rapidly declined as they could cope with the changing climate.
