L3: Conservation of Linear Momentum Flashcards
What are the 3 Fundamental, inviolable laws of engineering physics
- Conservation of Mass
- Conservation of Momentum
- Conservation of Energy
Conservation of Momentum Definition
The net external force acting upon a closed system will be equal to the time rate of change of the total linear momentum of the system.
System Definition
A collection of objects
Closed System Definition
A collection of objects where no objects where no objects may leave the collection, and no new objects may enter the collection.
Environment Definition
All things which are not part of the system.
External Force Definition
A force acting between an object which is part of the system and an object which is part of the environment
Internal Force Definition
A force acting between two objects which are both part of the system.
