Q

What is the processing method for an acquired image?

A

After the image is acquired it is necessary to apply radiometric & geometric corrections, combine them with other pictures (orthorectification), use false colour to detect features & possibly combining optical with radar image to have high spectral & spatial resolution.

Q

How can satellite help the response to Tsunamis?

A

Tsunamis are the consequence of earthquakes or volcanic eruptions underwater. Their waves are devastating on contact with terrestrial areas.
Satellite images offer a global view of the disaster, giving at the same time a good vision of the extent of affected areas and precisions on induced damage.
Mapping possibilities with satellite imagery
• Shoreline evolution
• Potentially affected areas
• Flood extent & evolution (monitoring for plain flood only)
• Damage assessment
