L17. Motor Control 1 Flashcards
Three Important Movement Types:
What are the 3 Ways Skeletal Muscle Movement is Varied?
Alpha Motoneurons + Two Types:
Difference between Type l Slow and Type llb Fast and Fatigable Fibres?
Learn a few differences
What is Innervation Ratio:
Low Innervation Ratio > Only a few muscle fibres
High Innervation Ratio > A lot of muscle fibres
If you want power, you’ll recruit large motor units
Fine movement, you’ll want to innervate small units
The innervation ratio can vary widely depending on the type and function of the muscle. Generally, muscles requiring fine control, means that fewer muscle fibres are innervated by each motor neuron, allowing for more precise control over muscle contraction
Feedback System of Alpha Motoneurons (Why Alpha Motoneurons are Final Path)
Motor Neuron Pool:
All motor neurons that innervate a particular muscle
Motor Unit:
Combination of an individual motor neuron and all of the muscle fibers it innervates
Understand the ‘size principle’ and other mechanisms controlling the force produced by muscles
