What could be the way for internal feedings?
Via tube, catheter, stoma into the GI tract
What is the common reason of using enteral feedings?
The patient is unable or unsafe to take any oral nourishment, like the patient cannot swallow or ingest
What are the diagnostic purposes for enteral feeding? (2 in total)
Providing access to gastric specimens for lab analysis; Evaluating the presence and volume of Upper GI bleeding
What are the therapeutic purposes for enteral feeding? (2 in total)
Decompressing the stomach to relieve pressure and prevent vomiting; Provide a means for irrigating the stomach by lavage 洗胃
What kinds of patients are contraindicated to enteral feeding?
1.Basilar skull or facial fracture
2.Recent facial surgery
3.Recent transsphenoidal pituitary resection
4.Upper GI surgery, like stent placement
5.oesophageal stricture
6.Deviated anatomic conditions, like nasal septum
7.Medical history of oesophageal varices/Bleeding tendency
8.Prolonged ileus (absence of bowel function)
9.Enterocutaneous fistula
