What is the cytosol?
A
The largest single compartment of a cell. Site of many fundamental cellular processes.

What is the nucleus?
A
Surrounded by nuclear envelope. Contains cellular DNA as chromosomes.

What are the mitochondria?
A
Site of oxidative phosphorylation. Generate ATP. Inner membrane extensively folded.

Site of photosynthesis

Endoplasmic Reticulum
A
Irregular maze of interconnected spaces enclosed by a single membrane. Entry point to secretary pathway. Rough ER= abundant in human cells active in lipid soluble compounds.
Sarcoplasmic reticulum= important in muscle contraction

Golgi
A
Flat appearance. Receives proteins and lipids as cargo from ER. Modifies them. Creates lysosomes and transports lipis around the cell.
