L1 - Introduction Flashcards
5 senses
- taste
- vision
- hearing
- touch
- smell
What is the purpose of the humans senses?
Considering that: What is the purpose of the body?
senses feed the information they perceive into the brain (if no senses cannot detect anything it does not exist for human brain)
thereby, the body acts as interface between brain and world (sensing -> brain processing -> manipulation towards what’s going on in the world)
After the brain received information from the senses: What happens in the second part of their processing in the brain? What does that accommodate for each individual?
They get filtered trough previous knowledge, skills, memories, influences, … meaning; everyone perceives things differently
-> it’s about experience and knowledge
Why do we struggle drawing common known objects (ex. a bike)?
separate knowledge parts in the brain are used, making a correct drawing nearly impossible without having a model to look at
Interaction Design
- taking user perspective into account
- enabling user a positive usage experience
- > enhancing positive aspects
- “design with user in mind”
- > user centered design process
Internet of Things (IoT)
- products and sensors can be connected to each other via the internet
Googled:
- network of physical objects; things embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet
Which 2 components does HCI accommodate for?
Technology + Psychology
- > cognition, perception and emotions make up interaction from human side
- > technology is used under its developments (circumstances)
Affordances (basic idea of it)
well-designed: interaction happens subconsciously
bad-designed: confusing or frustrating
-> suggestion from object in how to use it (may also be short usage explanations up on the object)
The Knowledge Cycle
Current knowledge -> user research -> design and development -> evaluation (and back to beginning)
- applying knowledge of human psychology and the technology itself to understand the user and the context he is in
- user research never lies
HCI in everyday life: What are the necessary basics to let HCI work out in daily life?
- formal or informal interaction (depending on setting if usage)
- different people use it (perceive it differently) -> should work for everyone or for everyone in a specific group which the object is designed for
- should work in every situation (ex. also if there is fire)
- > technologies become mainstream -> widely used -> very important to create suitable design for each domain (generally ensuring safe and good usage)
What happens in real world of object does not work for user after some trials?
user gives up, product not used
Why does HCI become more and more vital to human life and therewith more complex?
- user and computer work together as unit to solve a task
- computers become more and more invisible in daily life
-> invisible as separate entity of us
(mobile phone, smart watch, …)
-> user + computer = task (and from beginning again)
Under which area does HCI fit?
- human factors engineering (human-environment interaction, human-computer interaction)
-> industrial design, HCI, product design
(user experience design (emotions), interaction (elements used to do so), user interface design))
3 fields for HCI in CSAI
-> emerging tech
- virtual reality (VR)
- augmented reality (AR)
- internet of things (IoT)
Augmented Reality (googled)
- enhances version of the real physical world (it’s experience); adds to existing world as it is
- > trough usage of digital visual elements, sounds, or other sensory stimuli delivered via technology
