    -> elimination prints = known source

elaborate on ICE for why elimination prints are taken

A

I = incriminate - puts the suspect at the scene or on position of that item
C = corroborate - the witnesses story or victims explanation of occurrences
E = eliminate - the victim and other people not involved

examples of when elimination prints would be taken

A
  • stolen vehicle - who else drives this vehicle or is frequently in it?
  • B&E - who else lives with you or is over often/shortly before time of offence?
  • threatening letters/fraud - who handled the item prior to police showing up?
  • robbery - who were the employees working? were there other people in the store at the time of the offence?

how to properly take a set of elimination prints

A
  • powder tips of fingers lightly with black powder
  • flat lay of all 4 fingers and thumb onto sticky side of a shipping label
  • label placed onto clear acetate sheet
  • info to include = date, individual’s name, person who took thee prints’ name, incident #, which hand the print comes from

how are prints obtained from arrested individuals

A
  • f.prints taken under the identification of criminals act [whether consents is granted or not]
  • f.prints shall be provided once charged with an offence [regardless if convicted or not]
  • any amounts of reasonable force allowed to be used to obtain f.prints, if person resists to provide them
  • methods of obtaining prints = rolled ink, LiveScan

A
  1. C-216 RCMP form [did in PRA]
    - black ink pad
    - roll each finger one by one in ink pad and transfer on to form
    - prints look like squares
    - flat lays – taken similarly to elimination prints, 4 fingers then thumb
    - palms on back of page
  2. glass and paper method
    - ancient
    - squirting ink onto glass, and using it as ink pad
    - getting ink onto fingers and printing it onto paper
