How does ankylosing spondylitis appear?
Vertebral column becoming fused, appearance of piece of bamboo, anterior longitudinal ligaments calcifying
How does herniated nucleus pulposus (HNP) or herniated lumbar disk appear?
Possible narrowing of intervertebral disk spaces
How does spinal bifida appear?
‘open’ posterior vertebra, exposure of part of spinal cord
How does spondylolisthesis appear?
Forward slipping of one vertebra in relation to another
How does spondylolysis appear?
Defect in the pars inerarticularis (Scottie dog wearing a collar)
How does scoliosis appear?
Lateral curvature of vertebral column
How does a compression fracture appear?
Anterior wedging of vertebrae; loss of body height
How does a chance fracture appear?
Fracture through vertebral body and posterior elements
How does metastases appear?
Depends on lesion type:
Destructive - irregular margins and decreased density
Osteoblastic - increased density
Combination - a moth-eaten appearance
