KS3 Flashcards
What is the Function of the Membrane?
Controls what comes in and out of the cell.
What is the Function of the Cytoplasm?
Place where chemical reactions occur.
Whats the Function of the Nucleus?
Stores Information within DNA, & controls what happens in the cell.
What is the Function of the Mitochondria?
Releases energy from food (glucose) by aerobic respiration.
What is the Function of the Cell Wall?
Made from Cellulose and gives ridged support to the cell.
What is the Function of the Vacuole?
A space that contains a watery liquid called cell sap which keeps the cell firm and serves as storage and disposal of various substances.
What is the Function of Chloroplasts?
Contains Chlorophyll that converts sunlight energy into glucose food energy.
Define Diffusion.
The movement of a liquid or gas substance from an area of high concentration to an area of lower concentration when their particles collide randomly and spread out.
How does Diffusion occur in an Animal Cell?
Oxygen and Glucose diffuse through the membrane and into the cell, Carbon Dioxide and Waste Products diffuse out of the cell into the blood.
How does Diffusion occur in a Plant Cell?
Carbon Dioxide diffuse through the membrane and into the cell, Oxygen and Glucose diffuse out of the cell into the Air Space.
What is the Function of Ribosomes?
Serves as the site of protein synthesis (The creation of proteins).
Define Plasmids.
DNA rings that controls a small part of what happens the the cell.
Define Eukaryotic Cell.
A cell which has a nucleus which also have other structures in the cytoplasm that have membranes around them.
What is the Function of The Bacterial DNA Loop?
A long DNA loop that controls most of what happens the the cell.
Define Prokaryotic Cell.
A cell which does not have a nucleus - the DNA is free in the cytoplasm.
