What did “doing homage” demonstrate to the person above you in the feudal system?
A
The different part of the feudal system did “homage” in a different way:
- the barons paid homage by providing knights for knights service. This was 2mitnth in the king’s army and 40days guarding the king’s castles.
- the knights paid image by fighting in the barons army when needed.
- the peasants paid “homage “ by working on the Knights land. this was called labour service and included: working on the land for certain days( this was determined on what type of peasant you were) and gathering the Lord’s harvest (boon work)

What was the servitium debitum?
A
The servitium debitum was the rule that the more land you were given as a baron, the more knights you would have to provide.

Describe two features of being a medieval king (4)
A
In an exam, this would need to be in sentenced form.
- A monarch had total power and responsibility to run the country ==> the king had to be a strong ruler to enforce the law and ensure the country was safe from attack.
- The king needed to be itinerant and build relations with his barons ==> In the medieval world communication was poor and people needed to know who their king was.
