Kp Flashcards
What is the partial pressure of a gas in a mixture of gases?
The pressure that the one gas would exert if it occupied the same volume container on its own. The sum of the partial pressures is the total pressure.
What is the mole fraction of a gas?
The number of moles of that gas in the mixture over the total number of moles of gas in the mixture.
How to calculate partial pressure
Mole fraction of that gas X total pressure.
What does the Kp expression look like?
Partial pressures of products over partial pressures of reactants. Each partial pressure is raised to the power of the coefficient in the reaction equation and are multiplied together.
How to find partial pressure of a reactant using Kp.
Do same as ICE but with partial pressures remembering that they are proportional to moles. Sub equilibrium values for partial pressures into Kp expression. Rearrange to find x.
What increases the rate at which equilibrium is reached?
Increases in pressure and temperature. Use of a catalyst.
