Kp Flashcards
What is a homogenious reaction
Where all the reactants and products are in the same phase
Partial pressure equation
PP = Mole fraction x Total pressure
How do you calculate mole fraction
Add all the equilibrium moles together. Then divide each moles by the total moles
All the mole fractions add up to…
…1
What would the Kp expression be for
A(g) + 2B(g) < ——> 3C(g) + 4D(g)
Kp = (ppC)3 x (ppD)4
————————
(PpA) x (ppB)2
Only condition that can cause a change to Kp is….
….temperature
How do you work out the units for Kp
Look at the equation and take away the indices.
How to calculate Kp value
ALWAYS WRITE OUT THE Kp EQUATION FIRST
1) work out equilibrium moles using the ICE box
2) add the equilibrium moles and divide each by the total moles to work out MF
3) times MF by total pressure to get partial pressure of each
4) substitute into equation
5) units
How do you calculate partial pressure of one thing if they have given you only the total pressure and Kp value
1) ICE box
2) initial pressure will be 0 for reactants and the total pressure will be initial pressure for the product
3) make x the change
4) sub in the values and rearrange to find x
How to calculate total pressure when given equilibrium moles, Kp
1) calculate mole fraction
2) mole fraction x “P”
3) sub in the values
4) cancel out the P’s
5) rearrange equation to find P
