A proxy war, is a war where countries get others to fight for them, so that’s their hands stay clean
How was the Korean war a proxy war?
The Korean war was a proxy war because the USSR backed North Korea and the USA backed South Korea. This means that while the fight between capitalism and communism is still going on, but the USA and the USSR keep their hands clean.
During the war, what happened to the north to south divide in Korea?
During the war, Korea’s north and south divide fluctuated (moved up and down) as each side made advances and retreats, until there becomes a stalemate around the 38th parallel. The fighting continued during the stalemate until 1952 when Truman was replaced with President Eisenhower who wanted to end the war.
The divide at the 38th parallel has been there since June 1951 which is an astonishing 72 years ago. (2023)
