The USA was willing to give money, equipment and advice to a country that was threatened by Communism

In 1947, the United States pay for British troops to fight against Communists in Greece.
Who was Jan Masaryk?
In 1948, The Communists end the coalition government in Czechoslovakia. Pro-American minister, Jan Masaryk found dead. US Congress immediately throw full behind Marshall Plan.
What were the agreements at Yalta?
War criminals- punish war criminals
Elections- free election to countries liberated from German occupation
Eastern Europe- agreed that Eastern Europe was seen as soviet sphere of influence
Japan- Stalin agreed to enter war with Japan when Germany surrendered
United Nations- all agreed to enter the UN after the war to keep the peace
Germany- Germany would be split into four zones: American, French, British and Soviet
What were the disagreements at Potsdam?
Eastern Europe: Truman became unhappy with Stalins intentions with Eastern Europe
Reparations: 20 million Russians died so Stalin wanted compensation but Truman resisted
Germany: Stalin wanted to incapacitate Germany but Truman didn’t want a repeat of the Treaty of Versailles
