KO 3: Cold War in Asia Flashcards
Domino Theory
It was developed in the early 1950s. It stated that if
communism spread into one country, it would then spread to nearby countries, which would fall like dominoes. This theory made containment even more

When was the Chinese Revolution?
1949
What happened during the Chinese Revolution?
Mao declared the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the nationalists under Chiang Kai-shek, retreated to the island of Taiwan.
US Reaction to Chinese Revolution
They were concerned as China was the most

Millions of dollars were pumped into Taiwan and Japan to build up their economies. The USA and its allies refused to accept the new Chinese government.
USSRs Reaction to Chinese Revolution
They were the only major country to recognise the communist government of the PRC in 1949. Treaty of Friendship (1950) was signed by China and
the USSR. $300 million of aid would be provided to China. 8,000 Chinese students were allowed to travel to the USSR to study technology and science. 20,000 Soviet experts were sent to help the development of China.
