A
- Raised school leaving age to 15 to produce more skilled workers
- Two tier system in schools was introduced pupils were split at the age of 11 depending on their ability. The pupils who passed the 11+ exam went to grammar and the rest to secondary moderns

- By 1950 the government had designed 12 new communities
