Who were knights
A
They came from the social elite, with land that was £40 a year ( 20 years income of a well of peasant) they made up around 4 per cent of the population

What are the knights of the Royal household
A
The kings private army. Paid by the king. It was around 50 knights. Each knights had a following of knights and archers who they could call upon. Household troops made up around 1/3 or an army. It was however not large enough to fight in a campaign so the king needed other methods of recruitment ( see next pack)
