Pages learnt how to ride a horse, fight, play music, and sing. They also learned manners and literature from the females of the household
When did pages get promoted?
Pages were promoted at the age of 14 or 15 to become a squire.
What did squires learn/do?
Squires fought alongside the knight, as well as acted as a bodyguard for said knight. They also learned how to use dogs and hawks to hunt.
Why did squires often not become knights.
They often didn’t become knights because they couldn’t afford a suit of armour/equipment. It costed the same as a luxury car nowadays.
when would they graduate to knighthood?
They would graduate at 21, meaning this whole ordeal would take 14 years.
What code did knights follow?
Knights followed the code of chivalry. This entailed being brave, caring for women & children, and also strengthening the churches influence.
Why did knights do what they did?
They fought mostly because they loved fighting. They often partook in jousting and lancing competitions.
Why did knights train so hard?
They trained hard so that they could increase their value to the king, keep their social status and lands, and they increased their chances of staying alive.
