Knee Vocab Flashcards
femur
the bone of the thigh or upper hind limb, articulating at the hip and the knee.
Fibula
the outer and usually smaller of the two bones between the knee and the ankle in humans
Tibia
the shinbone, the larger of the two bones in the lower leg
Patella
the bone at the front of your knee joint.
Sesamoid
a small independent bone or bony nodule developed in a tendon where it passes over an angular structure, typically in the hands and feet.
MCL
spans the distance from the end of the femur (thigh bone) to the top of the tibia (shin bone) and is on the inner side of the knee joint.
LCL
The lateral collateral ligament is a thin band of tissue running along the outside of the knee. It connects the thighbone (femur) to the fibula,
ACL
connects the thighbone (femur) to the shinbone (tibia). It’s most commonly torn during sports involving sudden stops and direction changes — such as basketball, soccer, tennis, and volleyball.
PCL
located inside the knee, just behind the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). It is one of several ligaments that connect the femur (thighbone) to the tibia (shinbone)
Quadricep Muscles
group of muscles present on the front of the thigh.
Hamstring Muscles
skeletal muscles at the back of your thigh.
Subluxation
a partial dislocation.
Dislocation
a separation of two bones where they meet at a joint
Dashboard Injury
That can cause a painful injury to the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL)
Meniscus
a C-shaped piece of cartilage that acts as a cushion between the shinbone (tibia) and thighbone (femur).
