Knee Joint Flashcards
Which type of joint is knee joint
Hinge type
Synovial joint
Movements of knee joint
Flexion
Extension
Weakly medial and lateral rotation
Knee joint is between
Patella, femur and tibia
Does fibula participates in knee joint
No q
Articulation in knee joint
: 2 tibiofemoral - between medial and lateral condyles of femor and tibia
: 1 femoropatellar - between patella and femor
Ligaments of knee joint
Fibular collateral ligament Tibial collateral ligament Oblique popliteus ligament Arcuate popliteal ligament Cruciate ligament - ant and post Meniscus - medial and lateral
Attachment of fibular collateral ligament
From lateral epicondyle of femor to lateral surface of fibular head
Function of fibular collateral ligament
Keep the knee stable
Tibial collateral ligament attachment
Medial condyle of femor to medial condyle and superior part of medial surface of tibia
Oblique collateral ligament attachments.
- Expansion of semi membranosus tendon
- Originates from post side of medial condyle of tibia
- And attach to lateral femoral condyle
- supports and blends with central part of joint capsule as it pass over intercondylar fossa
Arcuate popliteal ligament attachments
- Originates from posterior aspect of fibular head
- And spread over post surface of knee joint
Popliteal ligament functions ( both oblique and arcuate )
Prevent overextenion of knee joint
Anterior cruciate ligament attachments
- originates from medial wall of lateral femoral condyle posteriorly
- inserts into anterior of intercondylar area
Function of anterior cruciate ligament
- prevent rolling and sliding of tibia in front of femur
- prevent hyperextension of knee joint
Posterior cruciate ligament attachments
- Originates from post intercondylar area of tibia
- attach to lateral surface of medial condyle of femur anteriorly
