Knee Issues Flashcards
Main issues with Knee
- damaged cartilage 2. femoral fracture 3. fibular fracture 4. inflamed synovium 5. Osteoarthritis 6. Loose bodies 7. Patellar Fracture 8. Rheumatoid Arthritis 9. TIbial fracture 10. Torn PCL 11. Torn Acl 12. TOrn LCL 13. Torn MCL 14. TOrn Meniscus
Causes of damaged Cartilage
- Trauma
2. Arthritic type lesions
full thickness lesion
commonly attributes with loose body and patellar dislocation.
- see bone
delamination of articular cartilage
separation of articular cartilage from underlying subchondral bone
chondroplasty
surgery used to repair small parts of the damaged cartilage
Microfracture treatment
treatment where holes are drilled in bone in hopes of growing back cartilage
Chondromalacia
damage to cartilage
debridement
removal of damaged tissue or foreign objects from wound
debridement chondroplasty
removal of damaged pieces of cartilage
2 types of femoral fractures
- supracondylar 0r extra articular fractures
2. unicondly or bicondylr fracture
Synovitis
inflamed synovium. membrane thickens and secretes excess fluid into joint
Synovium
membrane extends from femoral articular cartilage upward beneath the patella and quadricep tendon anteriorly and attaches to the margins of the articular cartilage on the femur and tibia posteriorly
- passes inside collateral ligaments and infront of cruciate ligaments
osteoarthritis
erosion or articular cartilage
Rheumatoid Arthritis
autoimmune disease often characterized by affecting both joints. causes synovitis, may cause chronic degenrative changes to cartilage ligament and bone structures.
different types of tears of lgiaments
- strain - stretch but no tear
- partial tear
- full thickness tear
- Avulsion fracture
