Knee Flexors and extensors Flashcards
Origin of biceps femoris (long head)
Ischial tuberosity of the pelvis
Insertion of biceps femoris (long head)
Head of the fibula
Lateral collateral ligament (LCL) and lateral consuls of tibia
Isolated fcn of biceps femoris (long head)
Concentrically accelerates knee flexing and hip extension
Tibial external rotation
Integrated fcn of biceps femoris ( long head)
Eccentrically decelerates knee extension, hip flex ion, tibial internal rotation( at mid stance of gait cycle) and stabilized LPHC
Origin of biceps femoris ( short head)
Lower one third of the posterior aspect of the femur
Insertion of biceps femoris (short head)
Head of fibula
Isolated fcn biceps femoris (short head)
Concentrically accelerates knee flexion and tibial external rotation
Integrated fcn of biceps femoris (short head)
Eccentrically decelerates knee extension, tibial internal rotation and isometrically stabilizes the knee
Origin semimbranosus
Ischial tuberosity of the pelcis
Insertion Semimembranosus
Posterior aspect of the medial tibial condyle of the tibia
Isolated function of semimebranosus
Concentrically accelerates knee flexion, hip extension, and tibial internal rotation
Integrated function of semimebranosus
Eccentrically decelerates knee extension, hip flexion, to be a external rotation, and isometrically stabilizes the knee and LPHC
Origin of the semitendinosis
Ischial tuberosity of the pelvis and part of the sacrotuberous ligament
Insertion of semitendinosis
Proximal aspect of the medial tibial condyle of the tibia
Isolated function of semitendinosis
Concentrically accelerates knee flexion, hip extension, and tibial internal rotation
Integrated function of semitendinosis
Eccentrically decelerates knee extension, hip flexion, tibial external rotation, and isometrically stabilizes the knee and LPHC
Origin of Vastus lateralis
Greater trochanter and Linnea aspera of the femur, lateral region of the gluteal tuberosity
Insertion Vastus lateralis
Base of patella and tibial tuberosity of the tibia
Isolated function Vastus lateralis
Concentrically accelerates knee extension
Integrated function of Vastus lateralis
Eccentrically decelerates knee flexion, adduction and internal rotation. Isometrically stabilizes the knee
Origin of Vastus medialis
Lower region of intertrochanteric line, medial lip of lines aspera, proximal medial supracondylar line of the femur
Insertion of vastus medialis
Base of the patella and tibial tuberosity of the tibia
Isolated function of vastus medialis
Concentrically accelerates knee extension
Integrated function of vastus medialis
Eccentrically decelerates need flexion, adduction and internal rotation. Isometrically stabilizes the knee
