Knee Flashcards
What type of joint is the knee joint?
Synovial joint
What are the 3 actions of the knee joint?
Flexion, Extension, Rotation
What are the bones that make up the knee joint?
Femur, Tibia, Patella
What muscles are responsible for knee flexion?
Biceps femoris (long head=superficial/short head=deep), semimembranosis (deep), Semitendonosis (superficial), popliteus
What muscle “unlocks” the knee after knee extension?
Popliteus
What muscles are responsible for knee extension?
Quadriceps:
-Rectus femoris
-Vastus lateralis
-Vastus medialis
-Vastus intermedius
When is rotation at the knee controlled at the hip?
When the knee is flexed. Only when the knee is in extension is rotation controlled at the knee.
What muscles are responsible for lateral rotation of the knee?
Biceps femoris
What muscles are responsible for medial rotation of the knee?
Semimembranosus, Semitendonosis, Gracilis, Sartorius, Popliteus
