knee Flashcards
which ligament of the knee are extra-capsular
cruciate ligament
function of menisci
aid in lubrication and nutrition of the joint
act as shock absorbers
make the joint surfaces more congruent
improve weight distribution
which meniscus is less prone to be injured
lateral
which meniscus is c-shaped
medial
which meniscus is thicker post than ant
medial
which meniscus is O shaped
lateral
which meniscus has equal thickness throughout
lateral
which type of joint is the patellofemoral joint
plane joint
what hypo mobility of sup. tibiofibular joint can cause
lead to pain in knee area on activity, because the fibula can bear up to one sixth of the body weight.
what do we observe in lateral view of the knee
genu recurvatum, patella alta and infera, note if inferior pole of the patella is tilted inferiorly
what do we look for in the knee in the posterior view
baker cyst
what is the pathway of the patella
follows a curved pattern, moving medially in early flexion and then laterally.
how do the patella is supposed to move normal
the patella should move up to half its width medially and laterally in extension
what do we need to keep in ming when testing knee ligament
Test normal knee first to establish a baseline.
When comparing normal and injured limbs, perform same test for both limbs.
Muscles must be relaxed.
Gently apply appropriate stress.
Repeat stress several times and increase it to point of pain to demonstrate maximum laxity without causing muscle spasm.
anterior drawer test is testing which instability
anterior instability
lachman test is testing which instability
anterior instability
slocum test is testing which instability
ant/med and ant/lat
what is the godfrey test and which ligament is test
look for posterior shift of the patella -> pcl
what are some meniscus tests
mcmurray, apple’s, bounce home, Thessaly
S/S of meniscus injury
joint line pain, loss of flexion (+ de 10 degree), loss of extension (+ de 5 ), swelling, crepitus
what are some effusion test
brush test, patellar tap, girth measurement
when does patient with patellofemoral dysfunction experience pain
when climbing or descending stairs, when stepping up or down, with prolonged sitting.
test for patellofemoral dysfunction
Clarke’s sign (patellar grind test)
Eccentric step test
McConnell test for chondromalacia patellae
Step up test
Vastus medialis coordination test
where does true knee pain tends to be referred
lumbar, hip, ankle
