Ahaziah went with Joram, king of Israel, to fight Hazael the king of Syria. Joram was wounded and went to Jezreel to heal. Ahaziah went to see him. But Jehu was meanwhile anointed king and came to assassinate Joram in Jezreel. Since Ahaziah was also there, Jehu killed him too. Seeing that Ahaziah was dead, Athaliah killed all the heirs to the throne and reigned in Judah.

Isaiah then prophesied that all of the wealth they had seen would be carried off to Babylon. But Hezekiah thought “at least it won’t happen in my time.”

They executed his children in front of him and then removed his eyes and carried him off to Babylon. Jerusalem was laid waste.
