Kingdoms Flashcards
What are the 5 kingdoms?
-prokaryotae
-proctotista
-fungi
-plantae
-animalia
Features of prokaryotae
-unicellular
-no membrane bound organelles
-small ribosomes
-no feeding mechanisms, nutrients absorbed by cell wall or photosynthesis
Features of proctotista
-mainly unicellular
-has membrane bound organelles
-some have chloroplasts
-can be autotrophic (acquired by photosynthesis) or heterotrophic (feeding on others)
Features of fungi
- can be uni or multi cellular
-has membrane bound organelles - cell wall of chitin
- no chloroplasts
- saprotrophic feeders ( absorb from decaying material)
Features of plantae
- multicellular
-membrane bound organelles
-all contain chlorophyll - autotrophic (feeding by photosynthesis)
Animalia
- multicellular
-membrane bound organelles
-heterotrophic ( feeding by ingestion)
Example of prokaryote
Bacteria E.coli or S.aerus
Example of protoctista
- amoeba
Example of fungi
Mushroom or mould
Example of plantae
Trees and grasses
Examples of animalia
Mammals- cats, humans
Reptiles- lizards
