kinetics Flashcards
rate of reaction equation
rate= amount of reactant used/ product formed DIVIDED BY time
what does the Maxwell-Boltzmann Distribution show
Shows the energy of gas particles
where do we start the graph on a maxell- boltzmann distribution curve
NOT On (0,0) as NO particles have ZERO kinetic energy
so slightly higher
axes of maxwell boltzman
y axis= no. of molecules
x axis= kinetic energy
where is the mode on a maxwell boltzmann
where is the mean
where is the A.E
what does the area under the graph show
1) centre of curve ( most likely energy of particles)
2) slightly to the right and a lil bit below
3) Near the end of the curve
the total number of molecules is shown by the area under the graph
for temperature increase how does the graph shift
down an right ( larger AE)
for temperature decrease how does the graph move
up and left (smaller AE)
how does a catlyst change the graph
moves AE to the left
- increasing activation energy
- so more particles have at least the activation energy in the catalsyed reaction
what is a catalyst
a substance that increases the rate of reaction, by providing an alternative reaction pathway with a lower activation energy.
