Q

State the properties of solids.

A
  1. Strong forces of attraction hold the particles close together in fixed, regular arrangement.
  2. The particles don’t have much energy so they can only vibrate about their fixed positions.

Q

State the properties of liquids.

A
  1. Weaker forces of attraction between the particles
  2. Particles are closer together, but can move past each other - irregular.
  3. More energy than the particles in solids.
  4. They move in random directions at low speeds.

Q

State the propeties of gasses.

A
  1. Almost no force of attraction between the particles.
  2. Particles have more energy than those in solids and liquids.
  3. Free to move, and travel in random directions and at high speed.

Q

What happens when you heat a particle?

A

You give its particles more kinetic energy (KE) – they virbate. This is what causes solids to melt and liquids to boil.
