This is the energy a body possesses because of its Position or State
What is the equation for calculating Potential Energy ?
PE = mgh
PE = mass (kg) x gravity (N/kg) x height (m)
If a stone has :
a mass of 200g
a gravity of 10N/kg
& its height above the ground is 5m
What would be your Potential Energy ?
( THE UNIT IS J )
PE = mgh
PE = (200/1000) x 10 x 5
PE = 0.2 x 10 x 5
PE = 2 x 5
PE = 10 J
What is Kenetic Energy ?
This is the energy a body possesses because of its Motion
What is the Kinetic Energy equation ?
KE = ½m V-squared
KE = {half of the mass (kg)} x {velocity squared (ms-1) squared}
If a Rock has :
mass of 3kg
velocity of 6ms-1
What is the Kenetic Energy ?
( THE UNIT IS J )
KE = ½m V-squared
KE = (½ x 3) x 6-squared
KE = 1.5 x 36
KE = 54 J
What happens when Potential Energy is lost ?
