Kinetic Energy Definitions Flashcards
A measure of how fast something moves through a particular distance over a definite time period. Speed is distance divided by time.
Speed
The rate at which velocity changes over time
Acceleration
A speed in a specific direction
Velocity
A force that resists the motion between two surfaces in contact.
Friction
A measure of how much matter an object is made of
Mass
The force of gravity on an object
Weight
A push or a pull; something that changes the motion of an object
Force
The force that objects exert on each other because of their masses
Gravity
A change of position over time.
Motion
The rate at which work is done.
Power
The use of force to move an object over a distance
Work
The ability to do work or to cause a change. For example, the energy of a moving bowling ball knocks over pins; energy from food allows animals to move and to grow; and energy from the sun heats earths surface and atomic sphere, which causes air to move.
Energy
The energy of motion. A moving object has the most Kinetic energy at the point where it moves the fastest
Kinetic energy
Stored energy; the energy an object has due to its position, molecular arrangement, or chemical position.
Potential energy
A law starting that no matter how energy is transferred or transformed, all of the energy is still present in one form or another.
