Kinematics Flashcards
What are standard assumptions for objects moving under gravity?
What is the acc. For an object moving freely under gravity?
Object is modelled as a particle and air resistance ignored.
9.8 ms^-1 on earth (give answers to 2 or 2 sig fig)
When are SUVAT equations used?
In cases of constant acceleration
What is the condition for maximum height (value of vertical v comp.)?
Vertical velocity = 0. Object stops going up and starts coming down.
what is a particle?
object modelled as having 0 size, shape and dimensions ignored
difference between distance and displacement?
distance is how far particle travells along its own path, displacement is how far particle has travelled in proximity to an origin or initial position
what is the gradient of a displacement time graph?
velocity
what is the area under a velocity time graph?
displacement
what is the gradient of the velocity time graph?
acceleration
what is the area under an acceleration time graph
change in velocity
what are the 4 suvat equations?
v = u +at
s = 1/2 (u+v)t
s = ut + 1/2 at^2 or s = vt - 1/2 at
v^2 = u^2 + 2as
how do you solve constant acceleration problems?
write out suvat, identify the given variables and fit into the best suited equation
