Kinematics Flashcards
Scalar:
A physical quantity which has magnitude (size) only.
Resultant vector:
The single vector which has the same effect as the original vectors acting
together.
Distance:
Length of path travelled.
Position:
A vector quantity that points from the reference point as the origin.
Displacement:
A change in position. It is a vector that points from the initial to final position.
Speed:
The rate of change of distance and know that speed is a scalar quantity
Free fall
An object is in free fall if the only force acting on it is gravitational force.
Gravitational acceleration
The acceleration an object will experience due to gravity. On Earth it has a constant value of 9,8 m.s-2 downwards.
Terminal velocity –
The maximum velocity a falling body reaches when air resistance prevents it from accelerating further.
