Kinematic waves Flashcards

Q

What is Overland Flow

A

During storm events, rain travels over the ground, first in sheets, then in
small rills, eventually concentrating in larger gullies and channels.
From a management perspective, we’d like to know what volume of
runoff we need to deal with, and when we’re likely to see it.
Approach:
- Mathematically describe the flow of water over land.
- Simplify the equations for quantities of interest.
- Develop practical methods for predicting run-off from different sized
storms on different terrain, e.g., the Rational Method.

What is the Kinematic Equation?

A

The kinematic wave equation is a general expression. It describes
transport of water
