Kinds Of Forces Flashcards
Weight
the gravitational force the Earth exerts on any object on or near its surface
Normal force
as the perpendicular force exerted by a surface on an object in contact with it
Frictional Force
The force that opposes the motion of an object and acts parallel to the surface with which the object is in contact
Static Friction
Friction between 2 solid objects that are not moving relative to each other
Kinetic Friction
When 2 objects slide across each other and rub together
Free-body diagram
Shows object as a dot. Forces are shown as labeled arrows which act away for the dot.
Maximum Static Friction
Max value of SF before the block begins to slide across a surface. Depends on normal force and coefficient of static friction
