Kidney Lab Test Flashcards
Hemoglobin / Hbg / Hb
oxygen-carrying protein
Hbg normal range healthy pt
men - 14 - 18g /dL women - 12-16 g/ dl
Hbg normal range HD
10-12 g/ dL
Hematocrit / Hct
% blood made of RBC
Which measure is dependent on amount of water in blood
Hct because it is % of blood. Hbg will stay stable dependent after HD tx.
Hct for healthy pt
men - 40-50% women - 36% - 44%
hct for HD pt
33-36%
Ferritin
iron stored in body
Transferris saturation (TSAT)
how much iron can be used to make RBC
Ferritin for HD pt should be
> 100ng/mL
TSAT for HD pts should be
> 20%
Hyperphosphatemia s/s
itching
Hypophosphatemia s/s
muscle weakness, coma
Hypophosphatemia can cause
calcium pulled out of storage
Hyperphosphatemia can cause
extraskeletal/metastatic calcification, crystals that damage blood vessels.
Potassium is
most plentiful ion inside the body
Hyperkalemia s/s
muscle weakness, heart attack
Hypokalemia s/s
fatigue, muscle weakenss, paralysis, abnormal heart rhythms
sodium is
the most plentiful ion outside the cell
Creatinine is
a waste product, NOT EFFECTED BY DIET
Urea reducation ratio
minimum dose of dialysis for one treatment. Level should be >65%
What should KT/v be for standard center HD
> 1.2
What is KT/v
Hd adequacy measure by taking produce of dialyzer clearance and length of dialysis tx in minutes divided by volume of water containing urea.
This test determines risk of developing calcium phosphate crystals
Calcium-phosphorus product
urine hemoglobin can increase by
smoking, jogging, bladder infections
serum albumin should be
greater than 4g/dl
